Novi Sad nightlife guide

Nightclubs, discos, clubs and bars

Most people know Novi Sad from Exit, one of Europe's famous music festivals, taking place within the walls of Novi Sad's Napoleonic fortress Petrovaradin, overlooking the banks of the River Danube. Every year in July the town explodes with 10.000’s of festival-fans coming for an impressive line-up of international top artists, the laid-back atmosphere and perfect organization. During its tenth anniversary in 2009 its line-up was even more impressive than usually with top-acts like The Prodigy, Moby, Arctic Monkeys, Lily Allen, Madness, Manic Street Preachers and Korn performing on Exit’s stages. Not many people know that besides a leading European festival, Novi Sad has also one of the best nightlife scenes of the region.

Best place in town for house music is definitely Baltazar, situated in the Park Hotel on Novosadskog sajma 35. With its minimalist interior design, huge bar operated by attentive bartenders and excellent DJs Baltazar makes a great temple for the house-worshipper. Baltazar is one of the most exclusive and stylish clubs in town and you will have to dress accordingly to pass the strict bouncers. But once you are in you will be pleasantly surprised by the friendly atmosphere, moderate prizes and above all the gorgeous girls on the dance floor. Another popular club in Novi Sad is Route 66 (Despota Stefana Boulevard 5) which functions as café by daytime and transforms into a pulsating spacious club by evening. The musical menu in Route 66 is very divers and offers pop, rock, jazz and even blues gigs. Outside the city centre, located on a boat at the Fishing Island you will find Skipper. The dance floor on the glass-walled upper deck offers a great view of the Danube and the Freedom Bridge. On the top level of the Bazar shopping mall, located on Mihajla Pupina Boulevard 1 you can find Club Giardino. The two roof top terraces offer a breath taking view over the town and make the ultimate setting for a romantic date or the start of a long night of clubbing.

Skirt hunters can’t afford to miss London Club on Laze Telečkog street 15, the place for unpretentious fun in Novi Sad. The atmosphere in this British-styled bar is usually very outgoing and often local girls end up on the bar, waggling their hips to 80’s and 90’s chart music. Martha’s Pub (Laze Telečkog street 3) is another café offering great opportunities for mingling with the locals. Every lonely traveller will feel at ease immediately amongst the cheerful guests and staff of Martha’s Pub. Try the local liquor medovača - a honey flavoured brandy – if you dare.

In front of the Art Academy and situated in the Petrovaradin Fortress is Jelisavetin bastion, a fascinating venue with a magnificent entrance and several beautifully decorated rooms with arched roofs. In every room there is a different music style on the menu and in summer Jelisavetin bastion offers pulsating parties where die-hard clubbers can dance until sunrise. Another club in the Petrovaradin Fortress, tucked away in the lower part of the town Museum, is Muzej (Museum). This charming disco club with its stone bar, wooden floor and arched ceilings has a big variation of activities like special themed parties, concerts and DJ sets.

Pipping on Katolička porta 5 is an evergreen in Novi Sad and renowned for its great parties. The ice bar of this oldest club in Novi Sad is a great place for socializing and flirting with local ladies. Famous for its many live concerts is Sterija, situated in the building of the Serbian National Theatre (Pozorišni Square 1). Latin music is very fashionable in the Balkan countries at the moment. Ritmo Latino on Sremska street 9 is the place to be in Novi Sad when you want to dance to hot Latino rhythms. On Fridays the local ladies shake their hips to R&B and hip hop meanwhile Saturdays are reserved for DJ gigs.  For something completely different head to Dvorište (Yard) Night Bar, the favourite hangout of the local hard rock and heavy metal fans on Uspenska 18.
