But in fact it is a remarkable clean city which has gained new vitality and especially wealth thanks to Ukraine’s richest man, Rinat Akhmetov who has his residence here. His latest prestige object is the brand-new $200 million stadium, home to Shakhtar Donetsk, Dynamo Kyiv’s main football rival.
