Brno city guide

The second largest city of the Czech Republic is best known from its Automotodrom Brno, ground of the famous Grand Prix of road motorcycles. The city has a very central location and within its two hundred-kilometre radius the capitals Prague, Vienna and Bratislava can all be reached in relatively short time. The old centre of Brno has preserved its historical character and it is a magnet to the many tourists visiting the rich culture and beautiful nature of the South-Moravian region. Some of the historical highlights are the Špilberk Castle and fortifications, the Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Paul (better known as Petrov) and the Mahenovo divadlo (Old theatre). The city of Brno is also famous for its modern architecture and the main attraction is the Tugendhat Villa which is included in the UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage List. Brno is a seat of many universities. The Brno Exhibition Centre with its international trade fairs, exhibitions and congresses is also a major draw of Brno to foreigners.
