For meeting up a more laidback and student crowd you should head to the bar and club Pulkvedim Neviens Neraksta ( which means: Nobody Writes to the Colonel named after a novel Gabriel Garcia Marquez) This is not venue for intellectual conversations about world literary though. Pulkvedim Neviens Neraksta on Peldu street 26/28 is a place for unpretentious fun with a great variety of music styles on the menu. On its two dance floors you can jump on the latest chart and retro cheese to hip hop and drum and bass.

 

A good step from the beaten path in Riga is Depo on Valnu street 32. This alternative joint is completely different from the many fashionable and trendy places in Riga where it is mostly about appearance and showing off. Depo offers a wide range of independent and alternative acts varying from experimental electronic DJs and local garage bands to trashy punk rock and grungy heavy metal. The interior of Depo is exactly what you expect: dark and far from stylish, and the atmosphere is extremely laidback. Depo provides an excellent opportunity to get acquainted with the underground scene and make friends with colleague alternative music lovers in Riga.

 

Clubs like Scandal, Velvet and Kardinals also provide good opportunities to get acquainted with local girls. Scandal on Kaļķu street 12/14 is one of Riga’s most flashy clubs and attracts a posh crowd and many glam queens. Voodoo Club is established under Reval Hotel Latvija.
